HBMA Annual Conference
Jud Neal spent part of his time in September at the 2012 Healthcare Billing and Management Association Annual Conference in Washington D.C. Jud participated in the pre-conference HBMA Hill Visit and Lobby Day as well as in many other activities associated with the 2012 HBMA Annual Conference.
Hill Visit and Lobby Day
The HBMA Hill Visit and Lobby Day is an event designed to help HBMA members get more directly involved in advocacy by becoming “citizen lobbyists” for healthcare and healthcare billing issues.
This year, the event included presentations by HBMA lobbyists about how best to lobby Congress. After learning more about lobbying, the group met with several members of Congress and their staffs.
Participants also met for one-on-one sessions with representatives from each participating member’s home state.
Jud met with Kansas Senior Senator, Pat Roberts and his staff in their Capitol Hill offices. They discussed issues directly related to medical billing and healthcare delivery in Kansas, as well as how to be more effective as "citizen lobbyists."

Panelist with The Honorable Speaker Newt Gingrich
During the HBMA Annual Conference held over the following three days, Jud also served on a panel with former Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich who was also the keynote speaker at the conference.
What does all of this mean for you . . . ?
Since its beginning, PBN has kept track of local, regional, state, and national politics and their effects on healthcare and medical billing practices. Jud and other PBN staff regularly participate in communications and in personal meetings with policy-makers on all levels. This affords PBN more direct access to policy-makers who share their knowledge about existing and planned government policies and how they may change medical revenue cycle and practice management . . . and ultimately the way you do business.
